Tony Malone, DVM | Medical Director
Dr. Tony Malone joined the Houston Humane Society in August 2017 as Medical Director. He received his undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences from Prairie View A&M University and is a graduate of Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Malone has an extensive veterinary background, having worked in emergency veterinary medicine, veterinary sales, and as Chief Veterinarian for Houston's largest municipal animal shelter. He is devoted to providing high-quality and affordable veterinary care to homeless pets and owned animals in need and is committed to addressing animal overpopulation by increasing access to free or affordable spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and education. Dr. Malone trains and mentors veterinarians, veterinary students, and vet techs in shelter medicine; full-service, affordable care; and high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter surgery (HQHVSN); thus, exponentially expanding the shelter veterinarian workforce in a high-need area of Southeast Texas.
Dr. Malone has expanded HHS's spay/neuter program and increased community awareness of pet vaccinations and preventive medicine. He completed a U.C. Davis Shelter Medicine Fellowship in 2013, and in 2023 was the honored recipient of the Association for Shelter Veterinarians: Shelter Vet of the Year award.
