The Houston Humane Society will host Picnic for Pets, a Grand Opening Fundraiser to celebrate their new pavilion, on Saturday, July 8, 2017,  at the pavilion located at 3330 S. Sam Houston Pkwy W., Houston, TX 77053.  The event will feature food, live music, free refreshments, a silent auction, fee waived pet adoptions, interactive kids activities, fantastic vendors and much more! All proceeds raised go directly to benefit the Houston Humane Society (HHS).

 

The Houston Humane Society is excited to open their new pavilion, which is the first building on a 22 acre piece of property, which will someday house a new clinic & adoption facility. Picnic for Pets is a way to introduce the general public to the new space, enjoy some great food, raise much needed funds for the shelter, and promote adoptable animals and specials.

 

All four-legged family members, and their two-legged human companions, are invited to attend.  Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and relax at the beautiful venue, while enjoying cold drinks and live music.

 

Picnic for Pets is not only an opportunity to have fun, but also an opportunity to support our homeless pets. BBQ plates will be available for sale, and all of our on-site vendors are donating a portion of their sales that day to HHS. Sherry Ferguson, HHS Executive Director, notes, “The Pavilion’s Beltway 8 frontage will provide much needed exposure to promote adoptions, animal outreach and events to many Houstonians who otherwise may be unaware of the HHS location and our programs”.    The silent auction will have items ranging from works of art, to gift baskets, to free event tickets!

As part of the Opening Ceremony, HHS will dedicate a brick in memory of fallen fire-fighter Captain William “Iron Bill” Dowling.  In 2013, HHS paid tribute to the four firefighters killed during the Southwest Inn fire.  This year, the shelter will add a brick to honor Captain Dowling who passed away in March due to complications from injuries sustained back in 2013.
