What is a typical day at Spring Break Companion Camp?
Every day our campers receive humane education lessons, spend time playing games, in the shelter socializing with the adoptable animals, making personalized camp crafts, and attending animal expert show-and-tells where they will meet special animals.
Camp activities promote creativity, critical-thinking and animal advocacy. Campers will be visited by guest speakers who work with animals professionally. Speakers include: dog trainers, wildlife rescue, animal cruelty investigators, therapy dogs, mini-pigs, horses, and reptiles. Our aim is to provide a well-rounded environment for our campers that allows them to forge new friendships and creatively cultivate a strong sense of compassion and responsibility for all living things.

How many campers are there per session?
We accept 20 students per session so that each camper is appropriately supervised. Register as soon as possible to ensure your child’s spot!

Do you provide lunch?
We ask that our campers bring a lunch. We provide two snacks per day and water is available.

What should we bring?
On the first day of camp, campers will receive a goodie-bag, Camp T-shirt, and HHS water bottle. Campers should bring their lunches, a water bottle, a jacket, and wear closed-toed shoes and pants.

How much time should I expect my child to spend with the animals at the shelter?
Our campers should expect to spend approximately 2 hours per day with our shelter animals. We have found this to be ideal for the well-being of our shelter pets. In addition, we will also have an animal expert who will bring a special animal for campers to learn about and visit with.

Do you offer internships for older kids who want to help out?
Yes! Children 14 years and older can apply to be a part of our Spring Break Companion Junior Camp Counselor Program. They serve as Junior Camp Counselors throughout the week. We ask the Counselors commit to at least one full week from 8 AM to 3 PM. To apply or to learn more, contact our Education and Community Outreach Coordinator at camp@houstonhumane.org.

What is your cancellation policy?
Due to the high demand for camp spaces, each sale will be considered final. In order to receive a 50% refund, patrons must contact the Education and Community Outreach Coordinator at camp@houstonhumane.org no later than 10 days prior to the first day of camp.
