Happy Tail Bear

Bear’s, journey after being adopted from the Houston Humane Society in 2015. After being adopted, Bear soon began working as a Service Dog for myself. She would perform different tasks that would help me with heart rate regulation and deep pressure therapy.

I began working towards my degree in counseling psychology to become a therapist. During our internship in our last year, Bear began working towards therapy dog certification. She soon began working with me providing animal-assisted therapy to a population of children ages seven to thirteen who had significant trauma histories.

She truly stepped into her own in this role and we accepted a position to continue working at the residential treatment center in Denver, CO. More recently, we have stepped into the interim role of Head of Animal Assisted therapy within this treatment center and have plans to move forward within this role.

I went back to the Houston Humane Society and adopted a kitten who we named Sophie.

P.S. Sophie and Bear are absolutely best friends. Their love wouldn’t have been possible without all of the amazing work the staff does.

So thank you!!
