We just celebrated Rosie's (formerly Petunia) third Gotcha Day (I got her from Houston Humane Society on January 13th, 2022).
She was a cruelty/hoarding case and incredibly scared. Progress was slow, but we worked really hard on getting her comfortable in her environment and not afraid of being touched.
Contrary to the stories where dogs drop all their fears and issues the second they get adopted, it took about 6 months for her to let me even touch her. And even three years on, we still have milestones to celebrate (she jumped up on the couch to cuddle with me for the first time last month!).
But she is such a funny, sweet, and happy girl now. She is quirky and loves sleeping on her back with all her paws in the air. She barks in her sleep (but never barks when awake haha) and will do anything for a treat.
Despite her still being pretty reserved, other dogs that I have fostered are all obsessed with her. I think her calming, happy presence puts them at ease and they constantly want to be near her. Thank you for saving my sweet girl and letting me be part of her life!
