HOUSTON HUMANE RESCUES 28 ANIMALS FROM EXTREME CONDITIONS

28 animals have been rescued by the Houston Humane Society (HHS) and Crockett Texas Police Department from a Crockett, Texas residence. The animals on the scene included 15 dogs, 6 cats, 3 chickens, 3 ducks, and 1 turkey. Some dogs were chained, and some could not access water or food. The animals were found in 112-degree heat and observed to be suffering from heat exhaustion, parasite infestation, and malnourishment.

The animals are now being treated by Houston Humane’s veterinarians and getting loving care from staff members. This case is under investigation, and charges will be filed if applicable.

HHS urges citizens concerned about an animal in danger to request an animal wellness check from local law enforcement and their partners at Harris County Animal Cruelty Task Force by calling 832-927-PAWS.

HHS reminds all area residents that prolonged exposure to the current heat conditions is dangerous for pets, just as it is for people. It is a crime in the state of Texas to leave pets outside without water or shelter in extreme temperatures.
