Veterans Day

Veterans Day is an opportunity to say thank you to those who fight for our country. 
 
We want to shine a spotlight on those Veterans who fight for our country and who are now fighting for the animals.  
 
Houston Humane Society Medical Director Dr. Tony Malone served as first Lieutenant Transportation Officer (348th Transportation Battalion) in the US Army for 6 years and now serves the animal community with his passion for shelter medicine. Dr. Malone’s 20-year Veterinary experience has helped reduce the homeless animal population with more spay/neuter programs in the Houston area.
 
Houston Humane Society Lead Volunteer Matt Giles served as an Aviator in the U.S. Army for 27 years. Matt completed 7 tours in Iraq and flew UH 60’s and RC-12’s. Matt’s compassion for the homeless animal’s shines through his dedication as a volunteer. Matt ensures every animals gets attention, care and human interaction each and every day he and his wife are at the shelter. Matt and his wife have started up a face mask business, donating 100% of the proceeds to help those dogs suffering from Heartworm Disease.
 
Houston Humane Society Lead Volunteer Gene Rock served in the U.S. Air Force for 3 years. Gene Rock is the now proud pet parent of 5 lucky dogs! Gene has had many careers in oil and gas and has since retired now wanting to spend his time with those who have no home or family – the homeless animals. Gene walks our animal's rain or shine, always the first to arrive and always the last to leave, wanting to make sure the animals get out of their kennel for some bonding time!
 
Houston Humane Society IT Manager Greg Evans served in the Marine Corps as Marine Staff Sergeant for 9 years. Greg applies his knowledge and expertise in the IT field to help animals find homes and care. Greg is diligent in his work to ensure the process to find an animal a home or receive care is efficient and effective.   
 
Houston Humane Society Veterinary Technician Donovan Moses served in the Marine Corps as Security Forces/Infantry for 2 years. Donovan now is a top-notch Veterinarian Technician who works to save lives in our Animal Wellness Clinic. Donovan is committed to aiding animals and society by providing excellent care and service for your animal.
