The Importance of Pet Wellness
Establishing a wellness program is essential to ensure proper care for your pet. Your dog or cat relies entirely on you for its long-term health and quality of life. Routine wellness exams performed by Veterinarians allow for early diagnosis of potential health concerns. Wellness exams can include physical exams, fecal exams, blood tests, urinalysis, and more.

What Will Be Tested During a Wellness Exam?
Routine veterinary care is important. Annual wellness exams are required to ensure you’re providing your pet with an optimal lifestyle. During pet wellness exams, your veterinarian will check the following:
  • General appearance
  • Body condition score
  • Joints
  • Skin
  • Heart & lungs
  • Internal organs
  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Lymph glands
  • Teeth
  • Gum color
Based on the results, additional tests may be required for your pet, including a fecal exam, heartworm test (depending on your geographical location), and more. Bloodwork can also be tested as a preventative measure to detect any possible organ problems early on. A urinalysis may also be performed to compliment this bloodwork and give your veterinarian an overall picture of your pet’s health.
It is also recommended that heartworm, flea, tick, and other intestinal control products are prescribed to your pet as a preventative measure for parasites. More commonly, dental care and nutritional needs will also be reviewed to ensure your pet’s optimal health.
